TO ERR IS HUMAN by Fiona Goodwin

I’ve done things and said things
That haven’t always been in my interest
I’ve said yes to people and places
When my heart wasn’t in it.

I hid the truth from my eyes
So they couldn’t see
That my words and my truth did not agree

I did it for them, or so I thought
To spare them from hurt if I told them the truth
My half-truth, my lie, my attempt at concealing
Had consequences, years later, That I wasn’t intending.

To err is human
To forgive is divine
I ask their forgiveness
And I ask me for mine.
