STUFFED AGAIN by Rupert Finch

Not to put too fine a point on it
This year wasn’t great
An “annus horribilis”
as the Queen described 1992

Tears form in my eyes
Not because I’m sad
It’s because I’m chopping onions
For the Christmas stuffing

More than once this year
I had a problem with my eyes
I couldn’t see the point
Of going to work

But we made it to Christmas
It’s time to be merry
And joyful. But Alas!
I am crying again

This time I have squirted lemon in my eyes
I really should be more careful
This cooking malarkey
Isn’t as easy as it looks on the telly

I’m trembling
I didn’t know how good I could be
