NAMING THE PAIN by Jen Curry

Who is present?
What is present?
Who is the present?
Where is the present?
Why is the present… present?
Is it Jen or Jenn? Is it Jenny? Is it Jenifer or Jennifer?
What is in a name?
Why, so many version for the same?
Frames to tame and refrain the pain.
The pain wanting to regain, obtain, explain,
To blame and constrain,
racist reins of humane terrain.
Who is the one, who will respond from across the pond?
What will the response be?
Will we bleed to set thee free, from the bondage of greed and need?
Do not recede, concede, mislead or deceive.
Proceed, with might, and believe what’s right.
Left is right for the plight
Lets’ ignite tribal rites in daylight.
Not firefight and headlights.
Despite the campsites and dogfights.
Connect us with foresight, Insight, hindsight.
Bringing in the sunlight, sound bites, stage fright
Respect nonwhites and follow the searchlight
Experience the peace of Martin Luther King teachings,
the true knight of nonviolent light.
Will we follow his starlight?
Or develop an appetite for the far right parasites.
Naming the pain wanting no more fame or gain.
We must retrain and refrain from hurting again.
