MY WHITE PRIVILEGE by Annsofi Hjärtström

The colour of my skin
The colour of my hair
And the ethnicity of my roots
Give me advantages
I need to see
I am NOT an object
of masquerade customes
I am NOT questioned by the police
only from how I look
I am NOT an object
of other’s invented right to touch my hair
I am NOT seen as a criminal
just from walking the streets
I do NOT have to be mentally prepared
for microaggressions when out
in public
I do NOT have to prepare my child
for becoming a victim of racism any day
In any form – Direct or indirect
The list can go on and on and on
I have learned
I need to see this
I need to see
That I have a freedom
That others do not have
