WHAT DOES YOUR SIGN SAY By Fiona Goodwin

Of course I wrote a poem
But today it just doesn’t seem to cut it

The glorious and terrible upheaval of this present moment
Shut inside, and far away from loved ones when they most need us
Riding roughshod over bigotry
Opening to the realisation
That we are part of a system
That says that some lives DON’T matter.

I made a cardboard sign for black lives matter
I walked the streets

I’m running a parallel campaign within.
My virtual sign reads:
Fiona, could we learn to get along?
Could we embrace
the stranger,
The warrior, the lover?
Forgive ourselves our loneliness
And call out for courage to believe that
Despite loss
We will find the hope
To create a better day
What does your sign say?
