We were once complete strangers by Fiona Goodwin

We were once complete strangers
And now we are friends
That’s what a friend is
Someone who didn’t exist
And yet somehow there they are
at your door
You opened it a chink
To see more
You hesitated
You kept them waiting
Or maybe you dragged them in
And then began the fun,
The stumbling around
Looking at the photos
Hearing their prayers
Seeing how much dust has gathered on their heart,
Can I be me
Have the brave conversations
Can I keep to my vow to be true to me
It’s messy turning a stranger into a friend.
But so worth it.
