THE TRUTH WILL NEVER CHEAT YOU By Fiona Goodwin

My every thought was on my face when I was born
But then I contorted my innards
And ironed out my face
so that every expression went through the filter of
“Will what I’m about to say get me killed?”
No, I wasn’t born to a family of mafiosi
But there were killing sprees
Often
My young heart and mind learnt quickly
That any opinion or desire
That differed from yours
Was a threat to my world order
punishable by all sorts of cruelty
You were violent
In a british polite sort of way
I was cast into outer darkness
(this could last up to a week spending a lot of time in my bedroom – The alternatively of being with you was lonely)
So I got clever and watched your face
To learn what to do or say to make it smile
My lesson was, and still is,
To find my truth
And speak it quickly
That unconditional love Awaits
When I dare to show whats
Behind the mask
lastly but most importantly
The truth will never cheat me
or you by the way.
