Standing to Attention by Fiona Goodwin

I’m standing to attention
At the gateway of 2022!
Not like the child on high alert
Standing ever ready
Desperate to please
Too scared to enjoy the view –
That ship sailed.
I’m standing up for whatever makes me smile
Kindness has my attention
You can’t even scare me into doing a vision board
Or writing intentions – Though a good thing they may be –
There is no forcing me into anything,
Standing straight, saluting are so 2021
I’m with King George the sixth
With war looming large in 1939
his infamous words
“I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’
And he replied:
‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.’
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East
And that was written by Minnie Haskins
And I’m heading for those hills
And the breaking of the day
And whatever is the lone East
I’ll take it
We live in an ever expanding, ever benevolent universe.
