On The Rocks by Terra Kay

Sunday morning coffee in bed
listening to Brandi Carlile—
You and Me on the Rock
I’m on the rocks now
watching you pack up
to have your other
life without me
These rooms are quiet and still
without the sound
of you breathing moving just being
my space is mine again
pausing here to capture
holograms of fifty-five hours
How nice it was
to share my space
with you cooking a meal
doing dishes putting used
dish towels in the hamper
wiping up a small coffee spill
on the breakfast table
Watching the roses I bought
slowly open as day turns
her morning light
to your leaving
to have your other
life without me
short walk on the beach
happy in my thoughts
sitting on the rocks
