MOTHER by Kristi Kirby

Freedom is ringing within me
I know what all I can be
You try to unhinge me
The new me doesn’t
Give in so easily
I’m so happy
Your negative breaths
Don’t get me
I chose to inhale
Goodness
Gratitude consumes me
And peace is constant
It showers my body
It feels so lovely
I want it inside
All the time
Go away
You hurtful things
It is so ugly
Like you portray
With the slurs at the tv
I can’t erase what made me
I try to to love you
To breathe nicely
One day
Instead of running me
Down into the ground
I’ve found love inside
And heaven is all
Around
I am so proud of this heart
I found.
