LIPSTICK by Bren Interlandi

When I was in my twenties, I began wearing lipstick for the first time to prepare for an interview to become an Account Executive for Clinique Cosmetics. After working in that industry for a few years I realized that I had grown quite fond of wearing lipstick and enjoyed discovering the beautiful shades and hues inside each shiny, cylindrical tube. ?

I continued to wear lipstick throughout out my thirties and forties, although the colors were a bit more subdued. I did not do so without intrepidation, however. You see, I began to discover that the passionate colors I had been longing for in my life had actually been inside me all along… in the form of a Rainbow.?️‍?

Lipstick Lesbian? Me???
Definition: one who exhibits a greater amount of feminine gender
attributes, such as wearing make-up.

I guess I have been one of those all along then. However, my lipstick wearing days are few and far between these days. I have learned to express my femininity and inner beauty through my writing and art. I no longer need to make such an effort to apply a mask in order to dance in front of society for acceptance. If you see me wearing lipstick when you and I meet someday soon, you will know that I am wearing it because I felt inspired to paint with my make-up brushes earlier that day…just because it felt right. ?
