My mother offered me a cup of tea
As I stirred from sleep today
‘Darling can I get you a lovely cup of tea? she said.
It was how she always did,
But it wasn’t her, it was her voice inside my head,
Still half asleep I answered
‘Thank you Mum, I’d love one,’
And at her invitation
I padded to the kitchen
And popped the kettle on
I watched the water boil
My hand placed on my heart
It was her, my Mum, inside of me,
She gave my day it’s start.
