THE PROMISE OF A STORM by D.K. Linda.

The dulcet tones of approaching thunder— the darkening sky and lingering reverberations. They grow more intense after each flash of light as it advances. Another earth-shaking strike and my heartbeat quickens. I’m rapt with fervent anticipation. Finally, the heavens open. At first, there’s a sporadic, slow rhythmic beat against the ground. This quickly escalates into a throbbing, pounding deluge. I lie back and take it all in — It doesn’t last long. The silence is deafening. Sunbeams suddenly force their way through the blinds. Now birds have started to sing somewhere in a nearby tree. It’s all over. It has move on, and I’m left wanting.
