The magic of the red bra By Fiona GOODWIN

Yesterday, In the midst of earthquakes,
Fires, and the terrified thousands escaping Kabul,
I went to get my nails done,
I sat in the sun,
And Katie and Tan from Vietnam
Told me how much they missed home,
We shared our immigrant stories
About how much we love the blue sky of California
They shared how they loved the health care system
I didn’t.

Twenty years ago,
I never dreamt
That I would fritter away money on nails,
That I would go to FedEx to print out my story,
That I would attend a movie screening in Hollywood
With American friends, also lesbians
I never dreamt I would wear a red bra,
You really don’t have to see it to believe it,
And you don’t have to believe it to see it,
Expect the unexpected!
Hope to be happy!
Don’t limit the universe to your small mind
Ask for Hope if you don’t have it
It will come.
I have the bra to prove it.
