THE EVENING LIGHTS by Elizabeth J Haist

The evening lights is all I want to see
I wait for the sun to melt into stars
There I go head first until she caught me

Wonder if ever I will hold the key
Instead of her like an old Russian czar
The morning dawn is all I want to see

Insistent constant yearning to be free
Flying down the highway in a fast car
There I go until she caught me

Falling so easily; how can that be?
A life or is this death in a Bell Jar?
The afternoon sun is all I want to see

Forgetting her murmurs and ginger tea
So I run to the neighborhood bar
There I go head first until YOU caught me

Wondering why I suffocate with WE?
Pulled into the undertow drowning sea
The evening lights is all I want to see
There I go head first until THEY caught me.
