My shadow complains by Fiona Goodwin

My shadow complains that I favour the light
That she needs some attention
And that being kept out of sight
Only strengthens her need to be heard.
Some days I sit in a pool of tears
Wrestling my resistance, my fears,
Knowing that if you see me,
If I see me the gig is up,
I don’t want to be seen with my darkness
I have to be honest
I pray to feel better to ease my pain
And to get stuff-
The house
The status,
The multi million dollar heiress
And a saltwater swimming pool,
 I’m not saying that’s bad
But I should probably consult my soul –
It has altitude and loves my shadow
As much as my shining.
