LADDERS by Avery Wheeler

Spiraling down the rabbit hole
Of lives lived a 1000 times

how deeply those words took

like a phrase from a nursery rhyme

Yet, I’m learning to forgive myself

and have that “brand new” start

but nothing is new under the sun

save the beating of my heart

and mermaids sing beautiful tales
where ships they do rocks run

though worn and tattered sails have a few more trips ‘round the sun

and the mythic ladder
that it’s said we climb
has not my long of a leg
or white rabbit’s sense of time

gentle, sensitive, sees more than you think…

your heart is my heart and in a quagmire ladders sink

so take my hand I’ve taken yours
separate yet together we will endure
a happy ever after it’s not what I seek
it is the traversing the journey to a parallel peak
