Be gentle with yourself by Debbie Carrier

Be gentle with yourself
Time comes and goes
Ebbs and flows
Like sand in an hourglass
Lately that’s the message
The sands of time
Swirling around
Like a message in a bottle
That someone got
Brave enough
To throw
Through
My window.

I live around the corner from Jim Croce
He’s now sleeping
And I am uniquely
Awake
And dreaming of the
Day that time
Revisits
The inner harbor
Of my love
For
Companionship and Sunday company
How
I miss
You
All.

But let’s be gentle on ourselves
Relax
Recoil
Recreate
A new beginning.

Time is made for thinking
It’s that space between the notes
Where God is.
It’s not the notes themselves
That’s action.
A verb.
Decisive motion.

Some say time doesn’t exist
That it’s a made up construct
That only man responds to time
And everything else is running on instinct
Driven by spirit
Unawares.

We go up and down like a bobber in a pond
Like the elevator, floor to floor
Stepping off, stepping on
Swiping left, swiping right

Be gentle with yourself.

You may be in the valley of a shadow
In a dip
In a cave
In a space of forgetting or reconciliation
Forgiving or deciding
The well
So full of
Choice.

Cause time comes and goes
Ebbs and flows
Like sand in an hourglass
And
Lately that seems to be the message
That the sands of time
Swirl around
Like messages in a bottle.

A bottle
That someone got
Brave enough
To throw
Through
My window.

And one day I will figure out what all this means
But today
I’ll just be gentle
With
Myself.

Read a book.
Write a love note
To an aching
World.
Sing a line or two from
A popular song.

And understand that some people
may be in the valley of a shadow
In a dip
In a cave
In a space of forgetting or reconciliation
Forgiving or deciding
Letting In and letting go.

The well is
So full of
Choices.
