A BURNING LESSON by Rosella Gómez

In the midst of losing my home
And feeling so all alone
I opened my door with helping hand
Unknowing what I was to withstand
A heart opened, wanting, needing
To stop the endless pleading
And want to keep a soul from dying
From a death that keeps the world crying.
I had to close my door, and empty out
Old spider webs that made me shout
No longer will this heart of mine
Live a life that makes me whine
Lesson learned of fire that burns
To cause me now to look, to turn
To a masked future, a world uncertain
No longer will I live, behind that curtain.
